The Frostburg State University's Cultural Events Series will present The Brubeck Brothers Quartet in concert on Friday, March 14, at 8 p.m. in the Lane University Center's Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall. The CES Arts Getaway Package and Dinner Show Package are available with this performance.
An exciting and talented new group with a name familiar to jazz fans, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet consists of four versatile musicians, two of them members of one of America's most notable musical families. Whether performing with symphony orchestras or in the solo/concert format, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet presents a unique blend of original compositions, jazz standards and classics by the legendary Dave Brubeck.
Percussionist Dan Brubeck and his brother Chris, who plays bass, trombone and piano, have received international recognition for their extraordinary musical talents. As sons of jazz legend Dave Brubeck, they had the unique privilege of growing up listening to, studying with and eventually playing alongside some of the great jazz giants of our time. They are joined by two longtime friends, Mike DeMicco on guitar and Pete Levin on piano and organ. Also a composer, DeMicco has worked as band member and featured soloist with such artists as Gary Peacock and James Taylor. Levin, a veteran of the New York jazz scene, has been active since the 60's with the likes of Miles Davis, Paul Simon and Vanessa Williams.
With the ability to seamlessly combine straight-ahead jazz, funk and the Brubeck style of playing in odd time signatures, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet offers a glimpse into the future of jazz while honoring the jazz tradition.
The Arts Getaway Package will transform this performance into a delightful getaway for two, with a choice of accommodations at LaVale's Best Western Braddock Motor Inn or the Downtown Cumberland Holiday Inn. Included with one night's stay is breakfast and dinner for two, a special welcome gift at check-in, round-trip transportation between the hotel and FSU's Lane University Center and two preferred seating tickets for the Brubeck Brothers Quartet.
The Dinner Show Packages are available at seven area restaurants to turn this performance into a special occasion. Participating restaurants include the Acropolis Restaurant & Lounge, El Canelo Mexican Restaurant, Gandalf's Restaurant & Pub, Gehauf's Restaurant, Giuseppe's Italian Restaurant, Harrigan's Restaurant and the Tombstone Café. Complimentary transportation is available. Reservations can be made up to two days before the performance date when purchasing performance tickets.
