John Unger, one of the nine coal miners trapped last summer in a mine near Somerset, Pa., will speak at Frostburg State University on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lane University Center's Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall.
Sponsored by United Campus Ministry and Catholic Campus Ministry, this event, entitled "Nine for Nine: The Heroic Rescue of the Pennsylvania Miners," is free and open to the public.
Unger, who lives in nearby Somerset, will tell his own dramatic story of how he and the eight other miners managed to survive the traumatic accident and rescue that caught the nation's attention last summer. While trapped underground for 77 hours, the miners shared their fears, confessions and prayers with one another while struggling to keep up their hopes of escaping alive. Their successful rescue lifted the spirit of the entire nation. It is a story of strength, courage and faith.
