Ann Townsell, graphic designer in the Office of University Advancement at Frostburg State University, has received a Silver Award and a Bronze Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Both awards were part of the CASE District II Accolades 2002.
CASE is the professional organization for university advancement professionals working in alumni relations, communications and development.
Townsell received the Silver Award for the President's Report, Category 22B: Visual Design in Print, multi-page publication, and the Bronze Award for the Homecoming Poster 2002, Category 22D: Visual Design in Print, posters.
The President's Report, entitled "Building on Tradition: A Decade of Progress, 1991-2001" offers an overview of FSU under the leadership of President Catherine R. Gira. Townsell's design incorporates a variety of photos, maps and graphic elements to present a comprehensive portrait of the university over the past decade.
"Take Me Home" was the 2002 homecoming theme Townsell worked with in creating her award-winning poster. Inspired by the American patchwork quilt, Townsell depicted distinctive structures of the FSU campus, including the clock tower and Lewis Ort Library, perched atop green hills under starry skies. Townsell layers "patches" of contrasting shades of color for a primitive effect.
