Frostburg State University's Department of Music will present a program of opera scenes on Tuesday, April 22, and Wednesday, April 23, at 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center's Pealer Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
Scenes featured will be from four Mozart operas: "Cosi Fan tutte," "The Marriage of Figaro," "Don Giovanni" and "The Magic Flute." There will also be selections from Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music" and Leonard Bernstein's "Candide." Students participating include Autumn Monahan-Avila, Emily Grace Fishell, Heather Sue Helmstetter, Brian Kosior, Jason Michael Owens, Justin Schardt and Lisa Wenzel.
The Opera Workshop program is directed by Carl Johnson, adjunct instructor of voice for the FSU Department of Music. Johnson, a baritone, also teaches at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and maintains a private studio on Manhattan's Upper West Side. He will also be featured in FSU's May 4 performance of Brahm's "Requiem."
