FSU Center for Community Partnerships Offers Computer Workshops

Frostburg State University's Center for Community Partnerships will offer a variety of workshops on the computer programs Microsoft Word, Excel 2000, Access and PowerPoint, as well as a seminar on grant writing. The seminars are:

Microsoft Word: Fundamentals I, will be offered Monday, June 9, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Students will learn to use rulers and tabs and to establishing simple tables for layout. Fonts, colors, highlighting and graphic features, as well as importing and manipulating a graphic, will also be covered. Instructor will be Dennis Buskirk.

Microsoft Excel 2000: Building Spreadsheets, will be offered Tuesday, June 10, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. This class is an introduction to the power of Excel, which enables the user to build, maintain and utilize analytical tools. Excel's formulas, tables and "what-if" scenarios are user-friendly. Learn to build a basic spreadsheet and develop workbooks. Instructor will be Dennis Buskirk.

Microsoft Access 2000: Building Databases will be offered Wednesday, June 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. Learn how to develop a database to collect information that is related to a particular subject or purpose, such as tracking customer orders or maintaining a music collection. Learn to track information from a variety of sources that you have to coordinate and organize yourself. You will be introduced to Access wizard, which helps beginners develop working databases. Instructor will be Reid Bluebaugh.

Microsoft Excel 2000 II: Intermediate, will be offered Thursday, June 12, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Progress from basic to intermediate/advanced features of MS Excel. Continue building, maintaining and utilizing the analytical tools and "what-if" scenarios of the software. Continue to learn advanced formulas and how to further build intermediate to advanced spreadsheets. Instructor will be Dennis Buskirk.

Microsoft Word Fundamentals II: Advanced will be offered Monday, June 16, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Learn backgrounds, creating and manipulating text and using graphic boxes, layout and creating templates. Instructor will be Dennis Buskirk.

Microsoft PowerPoint I will be offered Tuesday, June 17, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Participants will be introduced to the presentation software wizard, which enables presentations to be constructed quickly and easily. Slide backgrounds, changes in master fonts, graphics and layout, importing pictures and sound, animating slides and images, as well as deleting and moving slides, will be covered. Instructor will be Dennis Buskirk.

Grant Writing 101 will be offered Wednesday, June 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. This course is designed to enhance the skills needed to identify and successfully compete for a variety of grant funding, including local, state and federal government dollars. Learn where to look for funds, tips on developing a quality application that gets you noticed, learn about who is looking at your application and what they want to see, and what you need to do after you are awarded funds. Instructor will be Vickie Swink.

Microsoft PowerPoint II will be offered Thursday, June 19, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. An introduction to the multimedia and interactive features of PowerPoint. Participants will work to build an animated/progressive slide to use to organize a group discussion or learning experience and will learn to import slides from another presentation, create hyperlinks to Web sites, other slides and other files.

To register, call (301) 687-4008. The cost of the class is $20 per session. Make check payable to FSU-CCP. Seating is limited, so early registration is encouraged. All sessions will be held in Framptom Hall, Room 208.
