The Frostburg State University Department of Music Guest Artist Series presents "Expressions of Love," a scholarship benefit concert by the acclaimed soprano, Doretha L. Murphy, Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. She will be accompanied by FSU alumna Marsha L. Stine and Betty Jane Phillips on piano.
Murphy has performed at the National Gallery of Canada in the highly acclaimed "Ottawa in Concert" series, which features the best emerging and established performing artists in the Ottawa region. Operas she has performed with Opera Lyra Ottawa include "Un Ballo in Maschera," "Carmen," "Il Trovatore," "La Traviata," "Pearl Fishers," "Tosca," "Magic Flute," "Aida" and "La Boheme." She also appeared in the National Arts Centre/Opera Lyra production of "The Merry Widow" as Grisette, which was hosted by ABC's Peter Jennings. Murphy has also performed in concert with world-renowned conductors such as Trevor Pinnock, Pinchas Zukerman and Franz-Paul Decker.
Admission is $10 for general public and $5 for students and senior citizens. For reservations and information, call (301) 687-7462, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The box office opens one hour prior to the concert. Proceeds will be donated to the FSU Music Achievement Scholarship.
