The Frostburg State University Faculty Development Sub-Committee and The Center for Teaching Excellence present two workshops on Monday, Oct. 20, conducted by Dr. Todd Zakrajsek, Director of Academic Excellence at Central Michigan University. Both workshops will be in Lane University Center 201, Atkinson Room.
How Students Learn: Strategies for Teaching from the Psychology of Learning: Brown Bag Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This session is devoted to helping gain a better understanding of research about human learning, cognition and memory as it applies to teaching. The discussion will focus on what is really meant by "active learning," and why it works so well. Also presented will be common classroom approaches that facilitate learning.
Strategies to Help Students Succeed in Your Class: Workshop from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Students often arrive in class without the basic skills necessary to be successful college students. An easy default is to say, "They should know these things," but that will not help them to succeed. In this session we will discuss some direct and specific tips to give to students to help them learn the course's content.
