Betty Van Newkirk, columnist, local historian and curator of the Frostburg Museum will give a presentation on African Americans in Frostburg at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct 23, in the Leake Room of Frostburg State University’s Cordts Physical Education Center.
Among the many topics to be presented will be the very early years (slaves and free), the Lincoln School, the first African Americans at Beall High School and what happened to the families that lived in the area where the university expanded in the early 60's (Van Newkirk has kept in touch with some of the families).
Admission is free and open to the public. The event is part of the annual African American Studies lecture series. The talk is sponsored by African American Studies, Alpha Phi Alpha and the Sociology Club. For more information, contact Bob Moore at 301-687-4995.
