So long, Dolly! Move over, Mame! Get ready for one of Broadway’s “big ladies” when the musical “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” comes to Frostburg State as part of the University’s Cultural Events Series. Sponsored by the Best Western Braddock, the show will be held on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23 and 24, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 25, at 3 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Drama Theatre on campus.
The New York World-Telegram and Sun has called this musical, “delectable at the start, middle and finish.” This spirited tale of a legendary, real-life American original follows the exploits of Molly Brown, whose determination to rise above her impoverished origins takes her from the backwoods of Hannibal, Mo., to the palaces of Europe. Along the way, she marries a lucky prospector, enters the “bon ton” of Monte Carlo, survives the sinking of the Titanic and, above all, finally earns the approval she so desperately seeks from the “Beautiful People of Denver.” With a rousing score by Meredith Willson of “The Music Man” fame, the play charmed Broadway in a run of 532 performances. The Titanic may have sunk, but Molly Brown survived – and thrived!
This musical is presented in partnership with Windwood Theatricals and FSU Division of Performing Arts.
