Bethany Bastinelli, the director of Greek Life and Leadership Programs at Frostburg State University, received certification from CAMPUSPEAK, Inc., a national training and development firm located in Denver, Colo. Bastinelli will devote part of her time to campus organizations nationwide to assist in the development of community-building efforts.
Being one of the many applicants to be chosen as a facilitator for the SALAD (“Seeking Alliances through Leadership And Diversity”) program, Bastinelli became certified on Dec. 10, 2003 in San Antonio, Tex. As a SALAD facilitator, Bastinelli will travel to various college campuses to help foster strong communication bonds between diverse student organizations as well as Greek letter organizations. Bastinelli stated, “The skills I learned as part of the certification will help me to promote greater understanding and community building at this campus, and at other campuses I visit.”
The SALAD program will help to assist campus organizations in collectively bringing their students together as one. Through this program, students will recognize the stereotypical issues that keep students from working together, and these series of activity-filled workshops will help students gain more understanding of student community work.
