Frostburg State University's Upward Bound Program presented special recognition to 12 outstanding students at their annual Upward Bound Awards Ceremony and Banquet.
The Distinguished Student Award is presented annually to those who not only excel in the classroom, but also demonstrate the Upward Bound Spirit in all other areas of the program as well. Distinguished Students offer leadership, cooperation, respect and support for one another. They also display a positive attitude, are helpful to and considerate of others, and strive towards academic excellence. All Upward Bound staff- persons evaluate and vote for each candidate considered for the award.
Upward Bound recognized Ashley Webb (Fort Hill), Julie Hott (Fort Hill), James Crossland (Fort Hill), Rose Crossland (Fort Hill), Matthew Robertson (Bishop Walsh), Brandon Steele (Calvary Christian Academy), Steve Flanagan (Fort Hill), Ashley Andersen (Westmar), Rachel Sensabaugh (Allegany), Nikki Schneider (Fort Hill), Ryan Cassell (Fort Hill) and Julie Smith (Fort Hill).
Upward Bound is a national, federally funded pre-college program. FSU's Upward Bound program serves 60 Allegany County students. The U.S. Department of Education funds the program. Applications are currently being accepted and are accepted year-round.
