Frostburg State University’s Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC) program was featured as January’s “Place of Promise” on the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Web site. FSU is one of the first institutions to be honored with this special recognition.
FSU, along with over 40 community-based organizations including community and non-profit agencies, business leaders and neighborhood organizations, have joined together to set up two Community Outreach Partnership Centers to serve communities in Frostburg and Cumberland. Through meetings with neighborhood associations and community agencies, and surveys and interviews with residents, needs have been identified and projects were developed to significantly improve the targeted communities.
FSU is one of only seven schools that have been given the honor of being named a “Place of Promise” by the AASCU. The other institutions that have been noted are Northern Kentucky University, Indiana State University, College of Charleston, University of Arkansas Little Rock, Winthrop University and Bemidji University.
