Frostburg State University’s Community Outreach Partnership Center staff member Emily White, COPC VISTA member Tami Ramos and HallSTARS! team leaders Cayce Butler, Anthony Spencer and Andrew Scheper recently participated in Community Emergency Response Team Training offered through the Allegany County Citizen Corps.
Training included light search and rescue, small fire fighting, basic first aid, disaster response, disaster psychology and other topics.
“The purpose of the training was to take care of situations that the first responders, such as paramedics, don’t have time to,” said Emily White. “The training was geared more towards understanding what to do if a disaster were to take place.”
The training also taught participants how to deal with people who may be injured, how to set up a triage area if paramedics don’t have time and how to be prepared for a disaster.
“The main objective of the training was learning how to be prepared for any occasion,” White added.
