Frostburg State University will host a Maryland Summer Center for Mathematics for children now in grades four to six titled "Mystery + Mastery * Beauty + Power = Infinity." from July 25 to 29. Deadline to apply is April 15.
The bright young minds who attend will experience some thrills of math and surprising connections (such as Pascal’s triangle, fractals, use the powerful software Geometers Sketchpad), learn exploration strategies, build habits of mind to look at issues from multiple perspectives, face challenges, meet new friends interested in math and see math as alive, growing, discovering new answers to new and old questions.
The instructional team includes FSU professor Gerry Wojnar, director; Marc Michael, visiting fractalist; Len Brin from Southern Connecticut State University; Pam Deering, co-director and a former FSU Center for Instructional Technologies training manager/instructional designer; local teachers and FSU grads LeeAnn Zlomek from Washington Middle and Justin Keel from Northern Garrett; plus some FSU students.
The program is non-residential. Applications are due April 15 to Dr. Wojnar. The program is funded by the Maryland State Department of Education.
