Cultural Events Series Launches with John Fedchock New York Sextet
Release Date: 09/07/2005

The 2005-2006 Frostburg State University Cultural Event Series launches with a performance by the John Fedchock New York Sextet on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 8 p.m. in the Manicur Assembly Hall of the campus Lane University Center. The concert is part of the CES Jazz Club, sponsored by Kauffman Music.

Fedchock established his career as a jazz trombonist in 1980 when he joined the legendary Woody Herman Orchestra. He toured with the Orchestra for 7 years, during which time he was musical director and a featured soloist. Fedchock now leads his own New York Big Band, a 16-piece group of alumni from major big bands and stars from New York’s jazz scene. He was honored by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences with a 2003 Grammy Award nomination and has performed at jazz festivals and concert halls around the world.

The performance is sponsored by Vision Embroidery and supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council and is funded in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and in part by the Allegany Arts Council.

A special educational jazz session will be held with Fedchock on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 3:30 p.m. in Manicur Assembly Hall. Musicians will lead a discussion on their style of jazz music in the hour-long program. The session is free and open to the public. Space is limited, advance reservations requested.
