The Frostburg State University Choral Music Program presents its Fall Choral Concert on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center.
Under the direction of Dr. Karen Soderberg Sarnaker, conductor, and assisted by Betty Jane Phillips, accompanist, the concert will feature the University Chorale and the FSU Chamber Choir.
The University Chorale’s performance includes Mendelssohn’s “Heilig” for double chorus, Palestrina’s “Dies Sanctificatus” and Mozart’s “Litaniae Lauretanae, KV 109,” featuring sopranos Lauren Spinnenweber and Krystle Hutton, mezzo-soprano Olivia Hartman, alto Charlene Ferguson, tenor Joshua Ruppenkamp and baritones Justin Barclay and Gerald Ryan Bowie.
Works from other cultures include “Con Amores, La Mi Madre” (Spain) arranged by Bob Chilcott, “Te Quiero” arranged by Alberto Favero (Argentina) and “Durme, Durme” arranged by Alice Parker (Ladino). This portion of the concert will conclude with “Total Praise” featuring student conductor Belita Williams and “We Are…” arranged by Ysaye M. Barnwell and “Zungo,” a Nigerian folksong, arranged by Uzee Brown Jr., both conducted by student Windy Neal.
The FSU Chamber Choir will perform “Dravidian Dithyramba” by Victor Paranjoti (India) and “Thou Who Art Over Us” by Eskil Hemberg (Sweden). The concert will conclude with five vocal jazz selections, including “Just in Time” arranged by Steve Zegree, “Puttin’ on the Ritz” arranged by Kirby Shaw (choreographed by Daniel Durr), “Londonderry Air” arranged by Phil Mattson, “Skylark” arranged by Teena Chin and “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” arranged by Carl Strommen.
The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be graciously accepted towards the FSU Music Scholarship Fund.
