Five different artist will come together to present their five different styles. Frostburg State University’s Department of Visual Arts will hold the opening of “Five” on Friday, Dec. 2 in the Stephanie Ann Roper Fine Arts Gallery. The exhibition opening will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Gallery hours are Sunday through Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. and the exhibition will run through Wednesday, Dec. 7.
Senior Nikki Bergling has a dual concentration in painting and printmaking. She holds a great interest in art history and is influenced by the works of old masters along with the world around her. Bergling has developed a style that exploits expressive line quality and attempts to capture the originality and quirkiness of her surroundings. She will graduate in May 2006 with her B.F.A.
Senior Ashley Labrie is focusing in photography. Her work is influenced by the people and places surrounding her hometown of Pembroke Pines, Fla., as well as her close friends and family. She will graduate in Dec. 2005 with her B.F.A. as well as a B.S. in liberal studies with a concentration in art history.
Senior Carrie Pratt has spent her two and a half years on campus focusing in painting and ceramics. After graduation, she plans to complete a Masters in Art Education at FSU and eventually teach elementary education.
Senior Emily Rollins has been studying jewelry design for three years under the guidance of Doug Salmon at FSU. She is actively involved in an apprenticeship at J. Kreiger’s Goldsmith in Cumberland. Her jewelry reflects the flow of feminine curvature and is meant to enhance and beautify a woman’s body. She will complete her B.F.A. in Dec. 2005.
Senior Brandon Thompson is a graduate of C. Milton Wright High School and is focusing in painting. His colorful works consist of figures and portraits and uses media which range form watercolor, to acrylics, to oils. After college he plans to attend graduate school to obtain his M.F.A. and eventually teach college-level art.
