The Allegany Arts Council and the Frostburg State University Division of Performing Arts will present a special performance of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., on Saturday, April 1, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the FSU Performing Arts Center.
The performance is entitled “SHOWBOYS!” and features staged musical selections from four Broadway shows written by gay composers. Rather than staging one musical, the Chorus will do what it does best, pulling out all stops with full costumes, choreography, lighting and all the trimmings as it highlights everyone’s favorite songs from Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes,” Jerry Herman’s “Dear World,” Stephen Sondheim’s “Company” and Marc Shaiman’s “Hairspray.”
Founded in 1981, the GMCW has quickly become a staple of the Washington choral music scene performing at the Kennedy Center, the National Theatre, the Warner Theatre, Constitution Hall, the Lincoln Theatre and Lisner Auditorium on the George Washington University campus. In addition, GMCW has toured many major American cities and, in 1998, three Scandinavian capitals.
General admission tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the FSU-PAC box office beginning at 6 p.m. on the night of the performance. Advance tickets may be purchased from the Allegany Arts Council at 52 Baltimore St. in Cumberland, the Book Center at 15 N. Center St. in Cumberland, or from Main Street Books at 2 E. Main St. in Frostburg.
