The Frostburg State University Chamber Choir will present its Annual Spring Choral Concert on Sunday, April 30, at 4 p.m. at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 16 Washington St. in Cumberland. Admission is free.
Under the direction of Dr. Karen Soderberg-Sarnaker and assisted by pianist Betty Jane Phillips, the Chamber Choir performance will include Gorecki’s motet “Totus Tuus” (Poland), Hjalmar Ragnarrson’s “Ave Maria” (Iceland) and “Warning to the Rich” by the Swedish composer Thomas Jennefelt. The pieces will be performed by soprano Autumn Monahan Avila, alto Krystle Hutton, tenor Joshua Ruppenkamp and baritone Ryan Bowie. The choir will also perform Eric Whitacre’s "Cloudburst" for choir, piano and percussion, Sarah Hopkin’s "Honour The Earth As Your Mother" and Jaakko Mantyjarvi’s (Finland) "Pseudo-Yoik." The program will conclude with Bob Chilcott’s “MLK,” composed for the King Singers, featuring Ruppenkamp and Paul Caldwell, and Sean Ivory’s arrangement of “John the Revelator,” a traditional gospel blues piece.
