The LOWBRASSAPALOOZA! Concert, under the direction of Brian Plitnik, will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Nov. 17, in the Performing Arts Center’s Pealer Recital Hall.
The concert will feature the student group TUBONIUM! comprised of Wayne Schmidt; Brandon Strawther; Jonathan Beattie; Kyle Ritchey; Brittney Lynn; Joan Keller; Dan Kimble; Andrew May; and Julie Adolphsen.
Selections will include “Virga Jesse” by Anton Bruckner; “Recitative and Fugue” by Patrick McCarty; “Être ou ne pas être” by Henri Tomasi; and the “12th Street Rag,” arranged for ten low brass instruments and rhythm section. Adolphsen, a music education senior, will also guest conduct the work “Salvation Is Created” by Pavel Tschesnokov.
The LOWBRASSAPALOOZA! Concert will also feature the Sub-Sonic Tuba Quartet comprised of senior tuba performance major Schmidt; FSU alumnus and Peabody Conservatory student Nathan Royer; and FSU music department faculty Duane Salisbury and Plitnik. The Sub-Sonic Quartet will perform “Dances”
by John Stevens and the famous Sousa march, “The Washington Post.”
This concert is free and open to the public. Donations to the Low Brass Society, an official student organization committed to the advancement of low brass instruments, will be accepted before and after the concert.
