Frostburg State University will host Def Jam Poet Dana Gilmore on Saturday, Feb. 24. The poetry reading will begin at 9 p.m. in the Lane University Center Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall.
Gilmore has appeared on the third and fourth seasons of HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, where she has shared the stage with artists such as Mos Def, Kanye West and Smokey Robinson. She is a self-described “down-to-earth girl with a dash of diva” and her stage presence is one the listener will not soon forget. Gilmore speaks passionately and practically about the adversities of life as well as alternatives for dealing with those often hash realities. When she is not sharing her poetry with audiences throughout the country, Gilmore is working on music, stage plays, and screenplays.
