Two professors at Frostburg State University have pulled together their years of knowledge, experience and research of management and administration in the workplace to write a new book: “101 Leadership Tips.”
Dr. Danny Arnold, dean of FSU’s College of Business, and Dr. Ahmad Tootoonchi, chair of the Department of Management, were inspired to pursue writing a book together after conducting a Leadership Development workshop with FSU department chairs. Arnold focused on the importance of vision and how managers can effectively deal with complicated situations and continue to make progress until a group’s goal is achieved. Tootoonchi, who has spent many years studying leadership and emotional intelligence, presented information about how certain rational and emotional elements of leadership can create a culture of unity and energize groups to reach their goals. They received such positive feedback from participants that they decided to take their knowledge to the next level and put together a helpful book that would address leadership issues at all levels.
“Most leadership books currently in the market focus primarily on leadership at the top of business organizations,” Tootoonchi said. “Our book is unique in the way that it covers both day-to-day management activities as well as higher order leadership dimensions such as vision, judgment, empowerment, ethics and integrity.”
Published by Pearson-Prentice Hall, the 75-page book is available for purchase at www.amazon.com, and is designed for a broad spectrum of readers who want to learn more about leadership.
“Overall, we recommend that instructors who teach organizational communication, management, and/or leadership courses should require this book as a supplemental reading,” Tootoonchi said.
