Two Performances Cover All Ages, Maturity Levels
Frostburg State University will bring the enchantment of the puppetry arts to Western Maryland when the Cultural Events Series presents the Cashore Marionettes Sunday, April 15, at FSU’s Performing Arts Center Drama Theatre.
Audiences of all ages are invited to enjoy the playful creativity of the Cashore Marionettes in two different performances: At 3 p.m., award-winning artist Joseph Cashore manipulates his amazingly lifelike marionettes in a family program, “Simple Gifts,” which is recommended for adults and children no younger than eight. A series of touching character portrayals and scenes from everyday life are set to original and classical music, including Vivaldi, Strauss, Beethoven and Copland. The vignettes celebrate the beauty, joy and wonder in life, exploring a range of emotions from comic to tragic.
Then at 7:30 p.m., Cashore presents a collection of marionette masterwork in his tour-de-force, “Life in Motion.” Characters of depth, integrity, and humanity are portrayed in a full evening unlike anything else in theater today. Recommended for adult and young adult audiences, the performance is a series of comic and poignant scenes played out against a backdrop of classical music. A combination of virtuosic manipulation, humor, pathos and poetic insight takes the audience on a journey celebrating the richness of human experience.
Cashore’s amazing puppets have performed in Europe, the Far East and across North America, including stops at the Kennedy Center, Annenberg Center and Kravis Center.
