Dr. Kenneth Witmer has been named Dean of the Frostburg State University College of Education, effective July 1, FSU Provost Dr. Stephen Simpson announced recently.
Witmer has served as Interim Dean of the College of Education since March 1, 2006. He brings to the role significant experience as an academic administrator, having served previously as Associate Dean and as chair of the Department of Educational Professions. He joined the FSU faculty in 1989 and holds the academic rank of professor.
“Dr. Witmer has shown strong leadership and vision at the department, college, university, and system levels. He served admirably as the interim dean, leading the college forward and demonstrating consistently good judgment in making the difficult decisions required by the role,” Simpson said. “In addition, he has become a major contributor to debate on educational issues at the State level and has been instrumental in furthering major University initiatives in new program development and enrollment management.”
Witmer earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his master’s and doctorate degrees from University of Maryland College Park.
