The Frostburg State University Department of Music presents Karen Soderberg-Sarnaker, mezzo-soprano, and clarinetist Mark Gallagher in concert, accompanied by Betty Jane Phillips on piano, on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Pealer Recital Hall.
Soderberg-Sarnaker is the chair of the Department of Music and the director of Vocal and Choral Activities at FSU. She is active as an adjudicator, clinician, soloist and guest conductor throughout the region. Clarinetist Mark Gallagher is actively involved as a solo performer throughout the United States and Europe. He has recorded with the Albany Record label and can be heard on the Eastman “American Music” series.
Selections include “Sonata for Clarinet and Piano,” by Francis Poulenc; “Tributes,” five respectful pieces for clarinet and piano by the English composer Geoffrey Bush; “Zwei Gesange,” (two songs) for mezzo-soprano and viola by Johannes Brahms and Manuel De Falla’s “Seven Spanish Folksongs.”
