The public is invited to check out the talents of four innovative artists who work in a variety of different media in “Us Versus Them,” an art exhibition organized by students completing their Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees at Frostburg State University. “Us Versus Them” opens with a free public reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at FSU’s Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery and will remain on view through Dec. 7. The show features work by Allyson Mandich, Amanda Jones, William Spencer and George Kosmides, all FSU seniors who plan to graduate in December 2007.
Mandich is finishing a B.F.A with a concentration in ceramics and painting as well as a minor in art history. Her paintings consist of vivid colors depicting abstract flowers and landscapes. She is known for transmitting organic shapes onto her ceramic forms. She plans to continue her education after graduation by applying to a graduate program, and hopes to eventually teach.
Jones will graduate with a B.F.A. in graphic design and photography, as well as a minor in art history. Using various techniques, she combines photography and graphics in a vibrant color display. She has been passionate about art since childhood, and received an Associate Degree for Specialized Technology from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in June 2003.
Spencer is influenced by street art and graffiti. He attempts to put a new face on current events through graphic design by utilizing original icons. After graduating in December, Spencer plans to use his graphic design degree to start his own clothing company that will incorporate digital images and silk screening.
Kosmides will graduate with a B.F.A. in ceramics and a minor in art history. His unique forms and functional ceramics are complemented by different glaze techniques. Utilizing the soda kilns at FSU in combination with porcelain, he creates a distinctive look.
The Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery has free admission and is open to the public Sunday through Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information about the exhibition, please contact FSU Department of Visual Arts at (301) 687-4797.
