Wayne Schmidt, a tuba player at Frostburg State University, will perform in his senior recital on Sunday, March 9, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. He will be accompanied by pianist Sean Beachy.
A member of Phu Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Schmidt plans to receive his degree in Music Performance in May. He intends to perform professionally as well as teach. He is the son of Wayne and Kim Schmidt of Hurlock, Md, and a 2003 graduate of North Dorchester High School.
Highlights of Schmidt’s recital include performances of Jean Sibelius’ “Finladia,” arranged by Larry Zaidan, and Hector Berlioz’s “Hungarian March” from “The Damnation of Faust.” Other selections from Alec Wilder, Franz Strauss, Vincent Perishcetti, Oystein Baadsvik and Eric Ewazen will also be performed.
