Frostburg State University Department of Music’s Guest Artist Series presents Kenyon Wilson performing a tuba recital at 8 p.m. on Monday, March 10, in FSU’s Performing Arts Center Pealer Recital Hall. Assisting Wilson will be FSU’s low brass instructor and director of Brass Ensembles, Brian Plitnik, on the euphonium.
Wilson will be performing a selection written by FSU music department alumnus Neal Corwell titled “New England Reveries.” His program will also include “Dancing King” written by Jesse Ayers, “Five Movements for Tuba” by Joe Alexander, “Midnight Variations” by Walter Ross, “Petite Scherzo” by Charles Gounod and “House Mix” by Jeremy Beck.
Wilson, also a composer and instructor, is a low brass instructor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and holds positions as a principal tubist with the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra in Alabama and the Augusta Symphony Orchestra in Georgia. He recently collaborated on the “Tuba Music Guide: The New Tuba Source Book,” which was published by the Indiana University Press in 2006, has authored five articles for the ITEA Journal and published eight works for tuba/euphonium ensemble. Wilson has performed recitals in the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.
