Frostburg State University will present, "Amor Patrie: Arming Slaves in the Confederacy," a lecture given by Dr. Stephanie McCurry, an Organization of American Historians Distinguished Lecturer, on Tuesday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Dunkle Hall room 218. The lecture is sponsored by the Martha T. and Ralph M. Race Western History Lecture Series funded through the FSU Foundation under the auspices of the Department of History.
McCurry is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and is the author of “Masters of Small Worlds: Yeoman Households, Gender Relations and the Political Culture of the Antebellum South Carolina Low Country.” She has received many awards for “Maters of Small Worlds” including Best Book Prize of the South Carolina Historical Association in 1995 and the John Hope Franklin Prize of the American Studies Association in 1996. McCurry is working on her next book, scheduled to be released in 2010, about the Confederate political project.
