CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS:Frostburg State University will present “Deciphering the Rising Sun: American Japanese Language Officers In and Beyond the Pacific War,” a lecture given by Roger Dingman, University of Southern California professor of history, emeritus, on Monday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Lane University Center room 201. The lecture is sponsored by the Martha T. and Ralph M. Race Western History Lecture Series funded through the FSU Foundation under the auspices of the Department of History.
Dingman is the author of “Power in the Pacific, a Study of the Origins of the Washington Naval Arms Limitation Conference of 1921-1922,” and “Ghost of War: The Sinking of the Awa Maru and US-Japan Relations, 1945-1995.” His latest book, “Deciphering the Rising Sun: Navy and Marine Corps Codebreakers, Translators and Interpreters in the Pacific War,” was published in July 2009. His more than 50 articles and essays have been published in 10 countries and five languages.
