The Creative Writing Center of Frostburg State University is calling all writers, students and community members to submit their versions of goons and goblins, spiders and creepy crawlers to its “Spooky” stories contest.
Students and community members are encouraged to submit 750-word stories with the theme of “spooky” or “Halloween.” The stories will be judged based on originality, style, imagination and scariness. Winners will receive a cash prize and publication on the Center for Creative Writing’s Web site.
Submissions for the contest end Oct. 23. All participants will be invited to read their scary stories at a reading Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Mountain City Creamery, Frostburg.
Entry fees are required for submissions. Community members may submit one story for $5 or three stories for $10. Student writers from other community colleges may submit one story for $2 and three stories for $5. FSU student submissions are free of charge.
Submissions requiring payment must be submitted by mail, with check included, and electronically as well. Stories without payment must be sent electronically. All submissions must be labeled as “Spooky” Stories.
