Frostburg State University’s faculty recital series will present Dr. William Koehler in a voice recital on Wednesday, April 7, 8 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Koehler, a bass and baritone, will perform works from a broad range of composers, including Scarlatti, Donizetti, Poulenc, Hahn, Wolf, Copland and William Grant Still.
Currently an active performer both on the opera stage and in concert, Koehler’s most recent performances were Cadmus/Somnus in Handel’s “Semele,” a production of Duluth’s Lyric Opera of the North, and the bass soloist for “Messiah” at West Virginia University. He was seen in performance as Bottom in Britten’s “Midsummer Nights Dream” also produced by LOON. Koehler has sung numerous performances of “Messiah”; the title role of the oratorio, Elijah, at the University of Minnesota, Morris; and the Brahms “Requiem” and at the New Music Festival, both at Indiana University Southeast. He will be the bass soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at WVU in April 2010. Koehler, a first-year professor at FSU, teaches voice and opera classes.
