Dr. Joan Bristol, associate professor of history and history undergraduate director at George Mason University, will present her talk on “Virtue and Blackness in Colonial Mexico: Esperanza de San Alberto, Black Nun of Puebla” on Tuesday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Frostburg State University in Dunkle Hall room 218.
Bristol has published several journal articles and book chapters. She is the author of “Christians, Blasphemers and Witches: Afro-Mexican Ritual Practices in the 17th Century” and is currently researching the history of pulque and mescal.
Bristol’s talk is sponsored by the Martha T. and Ralph M. Race Western History Lecture Series funded through the FSU Foundation under the auspices of the Department of History.
