Frostburg State University students Britany Poindexter, soprano, and mezzo-soprano Jessica Schimming will perform a joint vocal recital on Friday, April 9, at 8 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU's Performing Arts Center. Poindexter and Schimming will be accompanied by pianist Nancy Witmer. The event is free and open to the public.
Poindexter will perform pieces from Henry Purcell, Alessandro Scarletti, Robert Schumann and Mozart. Schimming will perform pieces from composers Niles, Schubert, Stradella, Belinni and von Gluck. The last performance will feature both Poindexter and Schimming performing “I Know Him So Well” by Tim Rice.
A music education major at FSU, Poindexter hopes to become an elementary school teacher after receiving her master’s degree in choral conducting. She has future goals of starting an all-women’s choir. Poindexter is very active in her community, serving as a member of Cumberland Choral Society and First Presbyterian Church choir, a member of FSU's Chamber Choir and University Chorale. She is also a member of Delta Omicron, American Choral Directors Association, Collegiate Music Educators National Conference, student chapter of National Association of Teachers of Singing. Poindexter is expects to complete her degree in December 2012 and is the daughter of Kenneth and Kathryn Poindexter of Myersville, Md.
Also a music education major at FSU, Schimming has been studying voice for seven years. After graduation, Schimming hopes to teach music and choir at the high school level and become a private voice teacher. She has been involved in numerous choirs and is currently an active member in FSU’s University Chorale and is currently choral librarian for FSU’s Department of Music. She is also a member of Alpha Sigma Iota. Schimming expects to complete her degree in December 2012 and is the daughter of Dan and Deb Schimming of Jarrettsville, Md.
