RIOULT, a leading company in the world of modern dance, will perform several signature pieces at Frostburg State University as part of the Cultural Events Series on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Drama Theatre of the Performing Arts Center.
RIOULT (pronounced re-YOU) was founded in 1994 and quickly became an established name in modern dance with a reputation for creating and presenting the sensual, articulate and exquisitely musical works of Pascal Rioult. Based in New York, the company of 10 dancers tours nationally and internationally, creating a legacy of contemporary dance that speaks to the mind and the heart.
Pascal Rioult came to the U.S. from France on a fellowship from the French Ministry of Culture to study modern dance in 1981. He became a principal dancer for the renowned Martha Graham Dance Company before branching out and forming his own company. He has since dedicated his energies to perfecting a choreographic style of his own.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $13 for youth under 17. Group discount tickets and corporate packages are available. For more information about purchasing tickets, contact the Cultural Events Series at 301-687-3137 or visit http://ces.frostburg.edu.
This tour of RIOULT is made possible by grants from the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program, and is sponsored in part by the Allegany Arts Council with funds from the Maryland State Arts Council. The Cultural Events Series is supported by grants from MSAC, an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive. An agency of the Department of Business and Economic Development, MSAC provides financial support and technical assistance to nonprofit organizations, units of government, colleges and universities for arts activities. Funding for MSAC is also provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
As part of CES’ Educational Outreach Program, an Arts for Enrichment workshop will be held Monday, Sept. 27, at 5 p.m. in the Cordts PE Center Dance Studio in room 106. RIOULT dancers will present a master class that will engage the imagination and encourage using the body as a means of expressing creativity. The master class will stimulate creative problem solving and cognitive skills and enhance communication and discipline. Space is limited. Intermediate and advanced dancers can make reservations by contacting email@example.com or 301-687-7420.
