The Frostburg State University Jazz Ensemble and Vocal Jazz Ensemble join forces to present their Winter Concert, Thursday, Dec. 2, at 8 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
Under the direction of Timothy Powell, the Jazz Ensemble will perform “Cantaloupe Island” by Herbie Hancock, arranged by Mike Kamuf; “Take the ‘A’ Train” by Billy Strayhorn, arranged by Michael Sweeney; “Blue Rondo a la Turk” by Dave Brubeck, arranged by Calvin Custer; Duke Ellington’s “Mood Indigo,” arranged by Mark Taylor; “Corner Pocket” by Freddie Green and Dan Wols; Duke Ellington and Juan Tizol’s arrangement of “Caravan”; George Gershwin’s “Summertime” arranged by Dave Rivello; “Waltz for Debbie” by Bill Evans, arranged by Keith Foley; and “On The Street Where You Live” by Frederick Loewe, arranged by Mark Taylor.
The Vocal Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Karen Soderberg and assisted by Hannah Lagno, piano, and Rebecca Snow, bass, will perform “Java Jive” arranged by Kirby Shaw; “Tuxedo Junction” arranged by Jerry Nowak, featuring soprano Britany Poindexter; “Just in Time” arranged by Steve Zegree; the Manhattan Transfer’s arrangement of “Operator” arranged by Kirby Shaw, featuring soprano Katherine Kline; and “Makin’ Whoopee” arranged by Kirby Shaw.
