Frostburg State University student Lane Conklin will perform his senior tenor recital on Friday, April 29, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. (The recital was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m.) This performance is free and open to the public.
Conklin, accompanied by pianist Hannah Lagno and assisted on a duet by soprano Brittany Poindexter, will present an evening of music that includes German lieder (art songs), arias from German, Italian and French operas, a Hungarian operetta, as well as a British-style song set.
Conklin will begin the performance with Franz Schubert’s “Guarda Che Bianca Luna” and the French Impressionist style of Claude Debussy’s “Gallant Festivities.” He will also perform Gioacchino Rossini’s bel canto-style “Canzone: Se il mio nome” from the “Barber of Seville” and Donzietti’s “Quanto è bella quanto è cara” from “The Elixir of Love.”
Conklin will also perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s aria “Un aura amorosa (an amourous breeze)” and Igor Stravinsky’s “Here I Stand.” From the post-Romantic British style, Conklin will perform Roger Quilter’s “Songs of the Sea.”
Closing the recital, Conklin and soprano Poindexter will perform the aria “Love Breaks Every Bond” from the operetta “The Count of Luxembourg” by Franz Lehár. In this duet, two lovers sing about their new love.
An FSU music major, Conklin has studied with Mariana Mihai-Zoeter, Dr. Karen Soderberg and Dr. Jonathan Hodel. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and SNATS (Students National Association of Teachers of Singing). He is anticipating graduating in December 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in music performance. He hopes to have a performing career and conduct ensembles. He is the son of Andrew Conklin of Pasadena, Md., and Beverly Conklin of CataSauqua, Pa., and is a 2006 graduate of Chesapeake High School.
