Frostburg State University’s Department of Music and the FSU Foundation will present Czech pianist Alice Fiedlerová and Dr. Joan DeVee Dixon, a professor of music at FSU, in a program for duo piano on Friday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m. at the Lyric Theatre at 20 E. Main St. in Frostburg. The concert will celebrate renowned composer Antonín Dvorák as part of the 2011 Mutual Inspirations Festival of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Washington, D.C.
The program will feature “Concordien Polka,” “Zlonice Sugar Polka” and “Grand Cacilien Galopp” by Antonín Liehmann; “Muj Máj, Opus 20” by Vitezslav Novák; “Czech Dances” by Vitezslav Novák; and “Slavonic Dances, Opus 46” by Dvorák.
Fiedlerová is a featured artist for the International Dvorak Society’s American Spring Festival. She has made a number of recordings for Czech radio and television and has performed in Germany, France, Switzerland, Belgium and the U.S. In 2000, she was invited to collaborate on “In Memory of the Czech Terezín Composers Project” as the featured performer for the opening concert of the project. She is on the faculty of New York University in Prague and the Conservatory of Music in Prague.
Dixon has conducted extensive concert tours in the U.S., England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Israel, Palestine and Japan. She is a featured artist for the International Dvorak Society’s American Spring Festival and performs numerous concerts throughout the Czech Republic each year. She has released 12 CDs, featuring both piano and organ, and is frequently heard on National Public Radio and programs such as “Pipedreams.” For more information, visit www.joandeveedixon.com.

The Mutual Inspirations Festival extends from September through October 2011 and forms a unique bridge between Czech and American cultures.
