A lifeguard certification class is being offered through Frostburg State University’s Activities for Life. The classes will be instructed by Dr. Troy Strieby and will be held from Oct. 2 to 10 in the Cordts Physical Education Center pool. The deadline for registration and payment is Sept. 29. Participants must be at least 15 years old before the conclusion of the classes.
Lifeguard students are required to have strong swimming skills and should be able to complete a series of prerequisites on the first day of class, including a 300-yard continuous swim using a combination of front crawl and breast stroke, as well as be able to perform an underwater retrieval technique. Participants must attend all given classroom and pool times. Refunds will not be given after the start of the course.
The classes will be held on the following dates and times: Oct. 2, 6 to 9 p.m.; Oct. 3, 6 to 9 p.m.; Oct. 4, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Oct. 5, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Oct. 7, 6 to 9 p.m.; and Oct. 10, 6 to 9 p.m.
