Tenor Justin Ternent will present his junior recital, with pianist Bomi Lim Tunstall, on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of Frostburg State University’s Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.
A vocal major in the Department of Music at Frostburg State University, Ternent will be performing “Amarilli, mia bella (Amarylls, my lovely one)” by Giulio Caccini, “Ah, mai non cessate (Ah, never cease from your talking)” by Stefano Donaudy, “O sole mio (My sun)” by Eduardo di Capua, “An die ferne Geliebte (To the beloved, afar)” by Ludwig van Beethoven, “The Hermit Songs” by Samuel Barber, and “Weep you no more, Come Back!” and “Moonlight” by Roger Quilter.
Ternent is studying voice with FSU vocal instructor Dr. William Koehler and is active in FSU’s University Chorale and Chamber Choir. He is an Academic Excellence Scholar, member of the Sloop Institute for Excellence in Leadership and has been on the Dean’s List all six semesters he’s attended FSU. He is as an active member in Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity and Friends of Music at Frostburg; Ternent is also the student coordinator for Front of House with FSU’s Cultural Events Series. He is the son of Lawrence and Mary Ternent of Cumberland and Kathy Ternent of Eckhart and a 2008 graduate of Allegany High School. He expects to graduate from FSU in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Management. Ternent plans to continue his education to obtain a master’s degree in musical arts and pursue a career with nonprofit music programs.
