Message from President Gibralter (7:20 a.m.):
Dear FSU Faculty, Staff and Students:
It is with much sadness that I must tell you that one of our beloved students, Kortneigh McCoy, died early this morning from injuries sustained as the result of an assault off-campus before 2 a.m. Sunday morning. We offer our deepest condolences to Kortneigh's family and friends, and we ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers and offer them support in these difficult days to come.
Kortneigh was a sophomore, an RA in Simpson Hall and a member of United Voices Under God's Dominion. United Voices will offer a memorial service later today for those who want to gather and comfort one another. The time and location will be forwarded to the campus community as soon as they are confirmed.
The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation unit (C3I) is investigating the incident. We will forward any announcements they make regarding the case to the campus community.
Counselors from FSU's Counseling and Psychological Services, as well as the campus chaplains, will be available to speak to anyone who wishes to talk. Call 301-687-4234 to be put in touch with a counselor.
Finally, I want to ask the entire university community to look out for one another as we begin to cope with this tragedy. These are sad times, and Kortneigh's loved ones will need all our support.
Jonathan Gibralter, President
Frostburg State University
