Frostburg State University’s Department of Music will present a senior recital by Garrett Neiman on trumpet, accompanied by pianist Dr. Bomi Lim Tunstall, on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.
Neiman will perform the melodic and fluid “Aria con Variazioni” (“Air With Variations”) by George Frideric Handel; “Sonata” by Kent Kennan, a standard in the trumpet repertoire; “Badinage” by Eugene Bozza, which features light, moving melodic lines and a haunting, lyrical section; and “Prayer of St. Gregory” by Alan Hovhavness, a beautifully simple and meditative piece. The recital will close with Giovanni Gabrieli’s “Canzona per Sonare” for brass quartet. Joining Neiman on this piece will be Heather Buchanan on trombone, Evan Shutz on trumpet and Phillip Klickman on French horn.
Neiman studies trumpet with FSU instructor Dr. Dereck Scott, is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity and is on the Dean’s List. He is a 2007 graduate of Howard High School and expects to graduate from FSU in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education, with plans to become a K-12 instrumental music educator. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Neiman of Catonsville, Md., and Cathy Neiman of Ellicott City, Md.
