Irish musicians Jesse Smith and Ryan McGiver will perform traditional Irish fiddle music and songs at Mountain City Traditional Arts, 25 E. Main St., Frostburg, on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m.
Baltimore native Jesse Smith grew up immersed in the Irish music tradition of that city. Smith started playing the fiddle at an early age, studying with renowned teacher and musician Brendan Mulvihill. In 1998, his love of traditional music took him to Ireland to stay, where he has made his mark as a fiddler, touring and recording with well-respected Irish band Danu.
Based in the local area, singer and guitarist Ryan McGiver has toured throughout the U.S., Asia and Europe over the past decade, playing a mixture of traditional Irish and American music. He has recorded and performed with an eclectic mix of musicians, including Kevin Crawford, Cillian Vallely, Susan McKeown, Edel Fox and Shahzad Ismaily.
Melding years of talent and experience, this duo brings a powerful performance to Mountain Maryland. The free event is made possible with the generous support of 91.9 WFWM and Culture Ireland.
Dedicated to the education, sales, documentation and perpetuation of traditional arts in the mountain region, Mountain City Traditional Arts is a program of Frostburg State University with support from the Allegany Arts Council, FrostburgFirst: A Main Street Community, the FSU Foundation and the Maryland Traditions Program of the Maryland State Arts Council.
