Frostburg State University will hold a Tree Campus USA Arbor Day Observance and Declaration on Wednesday, April 4, from noon to 1 p.m. on the Lane University Center lawn or in the Lane Atkinson Room (room 232) if it rains.
Among the speakers will be Dr. Sunshine Brosi, chair of the Campus Tree Advisory Committee; Becky Wilson, who will speak on the importance of an Urban Tree Canopy; and FSU Sustainability coordinator Lawrence Gingerich and deans Dr. Joe Hoffman and Dr. Ahmad Tootoonchi, speaking on campus sustainability as well as interdisciplinary sustainability. Closing out the ceremony, FSU President Jonathan Gibralter will make a Declaration of Arbor Day followed by the Arbor Day Observance of Tree Planting. It will be accompanied by the FSU Chamber Choir under the direction of Dr. Karen Soderberg in a musical reflection of Arbor Day. Volunteers will meet for campus tree planting in front of the arboretum at 1 p.m.
