Frostburg State University student Lindsey Plummer will present her junior mezzo-soprano vocal recital, accompanied by pianist Dr. Sean Beachy, on Sunday, April 1, at 3 p.m. in Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.
Plummer will perform three Irish folk songs by an anonymous composer. The first of these, “I Know My Love,” is a West Irish folk song about knowing an individual’s partner well, but having fear of losing that love. “I Know Where I’m Goin’” is a folk song from County Antrim in Northern Ireland that speaks of love, specifically, unattainable love. “Down by the Sally Gardens” is a fairly recent folk song, and the text is thought to be from a poem by W.B. Yeats. The lyrics are solemn and state that a man has lost his love due to being “young and foolish.” The program will also include works by Robert Schumann, Fernando Orbradors and Ricky Ian Gordon.
A major in FSU’s Department of Music, Plummer studies voice with Dr. Karen Soderberg. She is the president of the University Programming Council, an alumna of the President’s Leadership Circle and attended the Sloop Institute for Excellence in Leadership in 2011. A 2008 graduate of Mountain Ridge High School, Plummer expects to graduate from FSU May 2012 with Bachelor of Science in music management and a minor in business administration. She is the daughter of Marty and Mary Jane Plummer of Frostburg, Md. Plummer plans to pursue a career in the event planning industry with a goal of planning wishes for Make-a-Wish foundation or a similar nonprofit agency.
