April Baer, coordinator for University Wellness at Frostburg State University, has been named to The Daily Record’s “20 in Their 20s” list, which features Maryland’s up-and–comers who are successful by or before the age of 30. Selected by The Daily Record staff, honorees are chosen on the basis of professional accomplishment, civic involvement and impact of achievement. The program celebrates the best and brightest under 30 whose creativity and spirit are already contributing to a new energy in Maryland.
In her association with University Wellness, Baer has engaged students in the CHILL (Creating Healthy, Informed, Lasting, Lifestyles) program in improving their health at all levels. CHILL includes preventative student health screenings, wellness promotion and the development of a variety of campuswide activities and educational outreach efforts that encourage exercise and nutrition. Through her grassroots efforts with CHILL, FSU was recently recognized by the American Heart Association as a Gold Standard Workplace winner. She also led the effort to make FSU a smoke-free campus and is a part of FSU’s efforts with the National College Health Improvement Project, a national collaborative working to curtail national trends in high-risk drinking. Baer holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees with honors from East Carolina University.
