Frostburg State University’s Children’s Literature Centre will hold its first CLC Book Award Banquet on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 5:30 p.m. at Maplehurst Country Club in Frostburg. The CLC Book Award was created to honor a children’s picture book that emphasizes the attributes of courage, love and compassion.
One of only a handful of children’s literature awards given by higher education institutions, the aim of the CLC Book Award is to encourage and support authors/illustrators in the early years of their careers.
This first award will be given to author/illustrator Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw for her book “Same, Same, but Different.” Kostecki-Shaw will be having a book signing at Main Street Books in Frostburg on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m., which is free and open to the public. A signed print of the book will be raffled off at the banquet. Books will be available for purchase and autographing at both events.
Book titles may be submitted for consideration for the award by Oct. 31 each year by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Chosen books will have to be children’s picture books of any genre, have literary/artistic merit and inspire compassion, love and courage in the children who read it. A nominating committee consisting of librarians, bookstore owners, FSU Education faculty of professions, practicing professionals and children’s literature advocates select the winner, which is then announced at the annual Spring Festival of Children’s Literature.
For more information or to make a reservation for the banquet, contact the Children’s Literature Centre at 301-687-3133 or email@example.com, or online at www.frostburg.edu/clc. More detailed criteria for the award can also be found at this site.
