Ronald Nowaczyk Appointed FSU President

Ronald Nowaczyk has been appointed president of Frostburg State University by the University System of Maryland. Nowaczyk is provost and vice president for academic affairs at Clarion University in Pennsylvania. He will join Frostburg as president on May 9, 2016.


Sociology of Harry Potter students, who are studying interpersonal relationships in that fictional world, organized a Quidditch match, complete with broomsticks, but without magical flight.

FSU students learn basic survival skills in a unique course called Doomsday Preppers and Surviving the Unexpected Emergency offered by the Department of Recreation and Parks.


Student military service members and veterans have a new place to call home at FSU, the Veterans Center on University Drive, which also houses the Veterans Services Office.

FSU Homecoming Court’s Fundraising Efforts Benefit Charities

Frostburg State University’s 2016 Homecoming King and Queen candidates raised a grand total of $4,888.57 for local and national charities in just three weeks. Students representing 15 campus organizations raised the most money the election has seen since 2012 and provided a fundraising increase of $1,603.19 from last year’s grand total of $3,275.38. Organized by the Student Government Association, the election allows representatives from University-recognized student organizations to raise funds and awareness for a charity of their choice in the process of their campaign.

Former President Gira Joins Board of J. Glenn Beall Institute for Public Affairs at Important Moment in U.S. History

Before retiring as president of Frostburg State University in 2006, Dr. Catherine Gira signed two agreements between the FSU Foundation, Inc., and former U.S. Senator J. Glenn Beall, Jr. The first, in 2001, established the J. Glenn Beall Archives in FSU’s Lewis J. Ort University Library.

Frostburg State University Students Advocate for Music Education in Nation’s Capital

Frostburg State University Music Education students Alexa Bashaw and Shefali Shah spent a day in June on Capitol Hill advocating for the importance of music education for every student at the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) annual Capitol Hill Day. Bashaw and Shah were the only two college students representing Maryland at the event.
