Professor Atkinson is an adjunct faculty member in the nursing program at Frostburg State University. She works from her home in Great Falls, Montana. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT, and a Master of Nursing, from Benedictine University, in Lisle, Illinois. She holds certifications as an Orthopaedic certified nurse from the National Academy of Orthopaedic Nurses, as well as a Certified Medical-Surgical RN from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses. Her teaching experience includes clinical supervision and a preceptor of nursing students in the BSN program at Montana State University, as well as supervising RN Case Management students from Montana State University-Northern. Her clinical experience includes working on a Orthopaedics/Neurology unit, as a circulating nurse in an outpatient surgery center, and as a Case Manager/Care Coordinator. She currently works as a Clinical Care Coordinator with a busy hospitalist group at Benefis Health System, a 500 bed level two tertiary care hospital in north-central Montana.

Professor Atkinson believes that it is so important to be a life-long learner. She believes that you should strive to learn something new every day. With this in mind, she approaches each student interaction as a learning experience. She believes each student has many great things to bring to the profession of Nursing, and she hopes that she can help each one of her students develop and nurture their passion for Nursing.
