Professor Olson is an adjunct faculty member in the in the nursing department. She teaches RN to BSN courses online from her home near Fredericksburg, VA. She has a BSN from the University of Maryland and her MSN from South University. She has taught face to face in a LPN program, and online in RN to BSN programs for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Frostburg State College. She believes that each student is unique in their past experience, personal and professional goals and learning style. She loves the online teaching method due to its flexibility for both students and professor, and for its student-centered approach to learning. Professor Olson has always enjoyed mentoring new nurses, and now applies that to her teaching. She believes that nursing is a lifelong learning experience and works to impart that concept to her students.
Professor Olson has 41 years as a RN and clinical experience in pediatrics, family practice, orthopedics, surgical post-op patients, geriatrics, and home health. Additionally, she has cross-cultural experience, having lived and worked not only in the USA, but in Canada, Belgium, and Ecuador. She continues to be involved in foreign missions with her husband in Latin America and the Caribbean region. Teaching online allows her to take her work with her when she travels. She speaks French and some Spanish as a result of her overseas adventures.
